My vision is driven by Agenda 2063, the Africa we want, a prosperous and peaceful Africa driven by its citizens, with well-educated and skilled citizens, underpinned by Science, Technology and Innovation and leaving no one behind, leading to a knowledge based, innovation-led society catalyzed by Social transformation and economic competiveness.
This can only be done through human capital development, research, innovation, industrialization and entrepreneurship. As 60% of our population is under the age of 25 in the continent, we need to harness the demographic dividend of our continent, especially at a time when we know that 40% of the existing jobs now will be non-existent in the next 15-20 yrs.
Our higher education institutions need to be able to respond to the needs of the 21st century, developing key competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, collaboration and technologically savvy.
STEM is critical in this day and age of being technologically savvy with the rise of new technologies in biomedicine, robotics and artificial intelligence. The ability to understand and apply data, and develop solutions to complex problems are important life skills.
There are so many way everyone can help in getting African Girls go back to school post the pandemic
